Obviously, they need to be close enough to residential areas that people can get to work, but the big industrial complexes shouldn't be so close that people have to live right next to it. Although all cities can add a train station, because of their physical size and general purpose, trains are best to be ignored if your city doesnt have a rail connection to the region. though that started to fall apart as I started expanding the city and adding areas according to demand. I also tried to make sure that each adjacent rail station was linked to a different type of zone, so that sims in the 3x3 area of dense residential (adjacent to a rail station) only need to ride to the next station to get to a 3x3 area of dense industry or commercial. The rail station would improve mass transit service. Ironically enough, Iron Roads did own a railroad that operated between Windsor and Hantsport in the 90s. A rail station was available as a reward. Growing up with Iron Roads owning the Bangor & Aroostook, Canadian American, Iowa Northern, and a couple of others, I was always inspired by the CP Script knock off paint job they had, so I made it my own with a few changes. SimCity had only one form of mass transit available: railroads. Mass transit is expensive to set up, however, it keeps traffic down and cuts down on pollution. Passenger Train Station Heavy Rail Tracks. Mass transit is a form of transportation that allows many Sims to ride together, rather than having a bunch of people go in cars individually. My most recent experiment involves using a 9x9 road grid, with rail stations and a rail cross occupying the 3x3 space in the center. Check on the number of Sims who ride the train per day and the average wait time for a train. I get maybe 250 people using it a day, tops meanwhile the roads are jam packed. Its cantilevering the platforms from the viaduct, elevators etc and adding a fifth track. I've been messing around with the rail system, starting cities in 1900 and trying to incorporate rails into my city designs. All in all, Lionel City Builder 3D: Rise of the Rails is a well done train sim game that manages to make the experience of driving a train somewhat enjoyable. I get the impression this holds back my city considerably. I wasn't really into doing anything that involved a large capital outlay at the time (which means I never built subways). Join Matt and JD as they give us a preview of Birmingham Cross-City Line: Lichfield - Bromsgrove & RedditchBirmingham Cross City is coming to Train Sim Worl. One tool I never figured out how to use properly is rails. I used to mess around with this game as a kid, but I never got very good at it. ![]()
